| A New Home to call their own |

They arrived at our door back in October very stressed and disorientated. They had only ever lived with their owner and were completely indoor cats ranging in age from 5 – 11 years; this was certainly going to be a challenge. We knew that placing them in the main cattery wouldn’t be wise and luckily at the time we had no kittens, so we put them in the kitten house to let them settle in without the stress of having so many other cats around them. This seemed to work well and as they began to relax we conducted our vet checks and realised that most of them needed dental work and were going to take time and lots of love and cuddles to help them settle into shelter life. For any cat it can be very overwhelming to enter a shelter, particularly so for a Siamese, but they were just amazing. Yes we had some temper tantrums and times when their confidence waxed and waned, but all in all they were settling in well. Now with all the veterinary work done it was time to find homes. James was the first to find a new home, which was no surprise to any of us. He was the youngest and jam packed with personality and playful exuberance. Tick! Seven to go. The days and weeks went past and we received little interest in the remaining five. We began to worry, was it their age? They're Siamese for crying out loud, they should be flying out the door! Then on New Year’s Day Tosca’s forever friend walked through our door. Tick! Four to go. Santana, a strapping seven year old had all the looks but alas not the heart. At his initial vet check he was found to have a heart murmur, so we conducted the appropriate tests such as an ultra sound and x-rays. Even though there was an abnormality, the verdict was that he should be given the chance in a loving home and when his new mum clapped eyes on him it was true love. Tick! Three to go. Matrix and Tiara were another pair that chose to spend a lot of time together and we were so pleased when they found someone who was prepared to take them both. Tick! One to go. An amazing feeling for everyone concerned! We hope that they are doing well and that each family is enjoying the same love that we received from each and every one of them. These cats weren’t special because of their breed but because of how much they meant to their owner. To know that they have found happiness is of great comfort to the family and friends and we are so proud that they entrusted us with this important job. |
