Animal Aid East Gippsland Finishes the Year on an All Time High Print E-mail

Animal Aid in Bairnsdale had their best ever adoption month, with 42 dogs and cats finding new homes in December.

135 animals came to the Animal Aid East Gippsland doors in December, with 80 of those coming in as strays and 55 as surrendered animals. Out of those, eight dogs and 34 cats found new homes.

Fortunately, 24 dogs were reclaimed by their owners, one cat was reclaimed and six families decided not to surrender their dog after Animal Aid’s training and behaviour advice – a great result all around.

Animal Aid East Gippsland Manager, Luis Marquez, and his team, are ecstatic about the solid and busy month seen at the most far flung of the three Animal Aid facilities.

“We had a delightful cat named Hope who arrived with facial injuries, but fortunately we have found her an amazing and loving new home,” he said.

“December was the highest cat adoption month since 2007, with the adoption rate increasing by 74 per cent since December 2010.”

“I would like to thank Miranda Bramich, Megan Abraham and Tahlia Apleton who are the Animal Aid East Gippsland Animal Welfare Officers. Who, together with the wonderful team of volunteers, did a fantastic job in turning an extremely challenging month into a highly successful one.

“Without such a dedicated group of people working alongside me, we simply could not have done it.” “A huge thank you also must go to the community who are seeing the benefit in adopting from our shelter”.
